KAMIAH — With another summer coming to an end, the community is getting ready for the annual Kamiah BBQ Days, and all the fun activities that come with it. Greg and Donna Johnson have been selected as this year’s grand marshals.
“This is just a great honor,”Donna answered Donna’s question about her feelings on being grand marshal.
Suzie and Clyde Winterringer of the Kamiah Flower Shoppe have been selected as this year’s Outstanding Community Members.
“It is an absolute honor and completely unexpected to be selected,” Suzie remarked.
The events start on Friday, Sept. 2, with the main event being the Kamiah Kub football game against Raft River at 7 p.m. To support the football team, it’s a good idea to wear Kub colors. A Central Idaho Agency Art Show will take place at 9 am. There will also be an Art Walk that day, with local businesses participating from 5 to 5. The 125 Maple St. will host a spaghetti dinner from 4-7 p.m. A Beer Garden will be hosted by the Chamber of Commerce at 125 Maple St. UYLC Teen Center will host a dance. ‘Club YAB,’This is for 7th-12th graders. You will receive water and no cost.
Saturday September 3rd will be the busiest of all days. Starts at 6:30 AM with the CVRA Rodeo Grounds Cowboy Breakfast. Next, there will be art and craft displays starting at 9:15 am on Vendor Row & 5th Street. An All School Reunion will be held in the Kamiah Elementary School multipurpose room from 9-10.45 am. BBQ Days will open with the Main Street Parade at 11:00 a.m. The Grand Marshals Greg Johnson, Donna Johnson, and Donna Johnson will ride in it. Many events will be opened immediately following the parade. Clearwater Classics Car Show, and Chamber Beer Garden both will open on Oak Street
UYLC Duck Race in Lawyers Creek starts at 12:20 p.m. The winners will be announced at 3:00 p.m. The YAB Youth Zone will be held 1-8 p.m. at the softball field of the Wa-A’Yas. You are all welcome. At 2 p.m. the It’se Ye Ye Casino Karaoke Contest and the Chamber Auction will begin, with karaoke at the east casino parking lot and the auction at 5th and Idaho. From 5 to 7 pm, all BBQ Days participants will be treated to a barbecue prepared by Chef Charlie Nickel. A street dance will take place at 8 pm, featuring live music by The Katz Band. The Diego Romero Band is scheduled to perform at the Kamiah Hotel Bar & Steakhouse until 12:15 a.m.
Sunday, September 4, will be a day to rest and do some cleanup. A cowboy breakfast is planned for 6:10-10 AM. The town cleanup will be led by the Kamiah football club. It will start at 9 am on Idaho and 5th Streets. The last event of BBQ Days will be The 27th Annual Quilt Show, which will be held at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church basement from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
