WhistleStop Festival 2022 will be raising funds for EarlyWorks Children’s Museum’s STEM expansion.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Festival WhistleStopThe Huntsville John Hunt Park will host a Friday and Saturday September 9th and 10th respectively. The annual fundraiser benefits education initiatives at the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum.
The event will include Shadetree and KCBS Professional BBQ competitions, the People’s Choice Tasting Competition, Wing Thing and great music. Hot Grills Car Show is back for 2022. Also, the Tasting Tent has been added. Three large-screen TVs display all of the Saturday college football action.

Cookers and attendees alike can expect a renewed focus on the festival’s roots this year; like the People’s Choice competition and the Wing Thing Competition. E4 Technology WhistleStop Tasting Tent will be available to guests.

For the first-time visitors can upgrade their general admission ticket to gain access to the Tasting Tent. Tasting upgrades allow you to access the Tasting Tent and special tastings for craft spirits, beer from your locality, or select wines. Throughout the course of the festival, Tasting Tent patrons will also be treated to samplings of “smoke-inspired small-bites.”You can visit the Tasting Tent from Friday through Saturday between 8pm and 10:30pm or Saturday mornings at 11am until 10:30pm.
About 110 cookers are expected to compete in either the Kansas City Barbeque Society’s sanctioned professional competition or the amateur ShadeTree Barbeque Cook-off. There will be judges from 10-15 and a limited number of participants from the United States each year. While amateurs will make chicken and ribs, professionals will showcase their finest chicken, pork and beef brisket.
If barbecue isn’t your thing, you can still arrive with an empty stomach — food trucks will be on hand with a variety of menu options.
Hot Grills car show is new to WhistleStop Fest. Starting at 10:00 am on Saturday, the show will showcase the finest cars. Awards for Best of Show, Crowd Favorite and Chairman’s Choice will be announced at 1:30pm on Saturday. Jeep lovers will find Jeep owners at the event to display their cars Friday night.
WhistleStop Fest opens Friday from 4-11pm to John Hunt Park Saturday 10am-11pm. Only $10 for each day. Tasting Tent upgrade available on Friday and Saturday. Festival Parking is located behind Joe Davis Stadium and will be $5. A lawn chair is welcome.
