Elgin Fire Department Firestation 1 550 Summit St. Elgin offers free BinaxNOW home COVID-19 tests kits. They are open from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Weekdays

Kane County Health Department is only going to send out the kit once, and then they’ll be distributed until there are no more. Three boxes per household is the limit to ensure we are able to serve as many families as possible. Each box contains two test.

On Saturday, December 18, the Elgin Public Museum will hold a celebration of winter solstice at 225 Grand Boulevard. Lords Park

This event will include solstice traditions from around the globe as well as origin stories about traditions that use holiday wreaths and Yule logs. A fireside singalong will be performed by the Elgin High School Madrigals.

A light lunch will also be provided. You can also find art, craft and other items available for purchase.

Adult admission costs $5, 3 for museum members and $3 for children between 3 and 12 years. Children 2 and under are free.

Duke’s Blues-N-BBQ in East Dundee and the nonprofit Taste the Love organization will be hosting the 7th annual Food Is Love community meal from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Fox Valley Baptist Church, 16N562 Vista Lane, East Dundee.

All are welcome to the meal, which is completely free. But donations of food and toys will be greatly appreciated by local charities.

Santa’s Village in East Dundee is sponsoring a letters to Santa contest through which four entries will will be drawn to receive a bicycle.

All correspondence must reach us by Sunday 18th December at 9 PM.

Drop off your completed letters to one of four mailboxes in Grafelman Park at 112 N. 5th St. West Dundee or The Depot at 319 N. River St. East Dundee. Triangle Park is located between East Main Street and North Wisconsin Street at Main Street Bicycles Carpentersville. The Milk House at 230 Reinking Road Pingree Grove.

One letter from each mailbox will be used to randomly select a winner of a bike.
