On Oct. 14-16, Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival occurred. It was an opportunity for musicians and bands from local communities, and for people to have entertainment and good food.

Free admission was available to all city residents to view new bands, such as Charlie Musselwhite or Kenny Neal. Also, they could appreciate the local artist and vendor offerings. The event website states that.

Mia Borders (Loyola Professor for Popular and Commercial Musicals) performed at the event.

“This festival has a nice mix of local music and national acts, so it’s nice to be included and represent my hometown,” Borders said.

For the purpose of selling paintings, artist set up booths. Some offered instruments like guitars or keyboards while others sold jewelry. There are also clothing stores, with one selling ties and clothes.

Local food venders, such as Brocato’s Catering and Crescent City BBQ, offered some barbecue treats, including wood-smoked ribs and BBQ oyster po-boys.

“It’s fun, and it’s good for the family,” Borders said.

Alannah Pelotte (a recent major in Criminalology) was able this year to attend the festival for her first time.

“There was something so warm and inviting about the festival. The music was really good, and it introduced me to the whole genre of jazz,” Polette said.

Polette thought the festival was an excellent way to learn about New Orleans culture and especially Loyola students who are new to New Orleans.

“It was interesting to be able to walk around and see so many people come together and share this amazing experience,” Polette said.
